Google has brought great news for its old Pixel phone users by announcing additional operating system (OS) updates for several older models.
While many Android manufacturers struggle to provide even the promised updates, Google is now extending software support for its Pixel phones beyond the initial commitment.
If you own a Pixel device, this update might apply to you. Check the list below to see if your phone is included.
Extra 2 Years of Updates for Pixel 6, 7, and Fold
Initially, Google promised 3 years of OS updates and 5 years of security patches for the Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel Fold.
Now, the company has extended OS support by an additional 2 years. This means these devices will receive OS and security updates for a total of 5 years from their launch date.
With the updated policy, the Pixel 6 will be eligible for updates up to Android 17, while the Pixel 7 and Pixel Fold will receive updates up to Android 18, potentially until 2027.
With this new policy
Pixel 6: Updates up to Android 17.
Pixel 7 and Pixel Fold: Updates up to Android 18, potentially releasing in 2027.
However, this extension does not apply to Pixel tablets, which will continue with the original 3-year OS update policy announced during their launch.
