Google Expands AI Mode with New languages

Google has given a big update to its users by expanding AI Mode. This AI-powered search tool now supports five new languages – Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Brazilian, and Portuguese – along with Hindi.

AI Mode is Google’s response to other AI search platforms like Perplexity and OpenAI’s ChatGPT Search.

It runs on a customized version of Gemini 2.5, which comes with multimodal and reasoning abilities.

New Agentic Features in AI Mode

Hema Budraju, Vice President of Product Management at Google Search, said in a blog post that this expansion will allow more users to ask complex questions in their own language and explore the web more effectively.

In August, Google added agentic features to AI Mode. With these, users can:

Currently, these updates are only available to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the US through the “Agency Capability in AI Mode” option in Labs. The Ultra plan costs $249.99 (around ₹22,000) per month.

Google Plans to Make AI Search Default

Until now, AI Mode was accessible through a separate tab on the search results page or a button in the search bar.

But soon, Google seems to be preparing to make AI-powered search the default option.

This was hinted by Logan Kilpatrick, Group Product Manager at Google DeepMind, in a response to a user on X.

However, Google’s latest AI update – including AI Mode and AI Overview – has faced criticism. Many claim it is reducing website traffic by cutting down on search clicks.

Google, however, has denied these claims, saying its AI features are not negatively impacting web traffic.
