Google has announced a major update to its AI-powered Search in India, expanding AI Mode to seven new regional languages: Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
Previously, AI Mode was available only in English and Hindi.
With this expansion, millions more users across India can now ask complex questions and get detailed answers in their preferred language, making the tool more accessible and useful.
How AI Mode Is Transforming Search
Since its launch in India, AI Mode has been widely used for education, writing, product comparisons, and trip planning.
Google says the response has been “incredible.”
The new language expansion is powered by Google’s custom Gemini model for Search, which understands local language nuances instead of just translating words.
The rollout of these languages is expected over the next week, making AI Mode more inclusive for Indian users.
Introducing ‘Search Live’ for Real-Time Help
Alongside the language update, Google has also launched Search Live, a new feature within AI Mode.
This allows users to interact with Search using voice and camera, making it easier to get real-time answers based on what’s in front of them.
For example, users can point their camera at ingredients and ask, “What’s the best way to combine these to make an iced matcha?” and receive instant guidance.
This is especially helpful for DIY projects, troubleshooting, schoolwork, and travel planning.
Search Live will begin rolling out on October 8 and will gradually reach more users.
To try it, open the Google app and tap the ‘Live’ icon under the search bar, or open Google Lens and select ‘Live’ at the bottom.
Making Search More Conversational and Accessible
These updates highlight Google’s commitment to making Search more intuitive, conversational, and accessible for users in India.
With AI Mode in regional languages and real-time interactive tools like Search Live, users can now truly ask anything in the language they are most comfortable with.
