Gmail Gets Smarter with New AI Email Summaries

If you often get tired of reading too many emails every day, there’s good news. Google has introduced a new AI feature in the Gmail mobile app that automatically summarizes long email threads.

This means you no longer need to read the entire conversation—just check the summary shown at the top of the email.

How the AI Summary Feature Works

This new feature uses Google’s Gemini AI. It automatically decides which email threads need a summary and creates one for you.

Earlier, users had to tap on “Summarize this email,” but now the summary appears automatically. Also, if new replies are added to the thread, the summary updates on its own.

Currently, this feature is available only in English and only for paid Google Workspace users. Regular Gmail users will have to wait for this feature to be rolled out to everyone.

If you don’t like the AI summaries, you can turn them off by going into Gmail settings and switching off “Smart Features.”

But keep in mind, this will also disable other smart tools like smart replies and reminders.

Why This Feature Matters

This update is especially helpful for people who deal with a large number of emails daily. It saves time and lets you quickly understand the main points of an email without reading everything.

Google also mentioned that more AI features may be added in the future, such as auto-typing replies, improving your email language, or even drafting full emails automatically.

And don’t worry about privacy—Google says all AI processing happens securely and locally on your device. Your data stays safe and isn’t shared outside.

With this new AI tool, using Gmail will become faster, smarter, and easier than ever. If you’re tired of reading long emails, this feature can really help.
