If you have a savings account or fixed deposit (FD) with the Post Office, there’s no need to visit the branch anymore to get your interest certificate.

This will be particularly helpful for senior citizens, especially when filing your Income Tax Return (ITR).

On May 7, 2025, the Department of Posts issued a statement announcing, “To make things easier for internet banking users, a new feature has been added that allows e-banking users to download the interest certificate from the portal.”

Why is the Interest Certificate important?

In addition to tax filing, the interest certificate helps confirm whether the correct interest is being paid on your deposits.

It’s also crucial for people whose income is below the taxable threshold, as they can use the certificate to submit Form 15G or Form 15H to avoid TDS (Tax Deducted at Source).

Here’s how to download the Interest Certificate from home:

Visit the website: ebanking.indiapost.gov.in.

If you’re registered, log in with your user ID and password. If not, complete the registration process first.

Once logged in, go to the Accounts tab.

Click on “Interest Certificate.”

Choose the financial year for which you need the certificate.

Download your Interest Certificate.
