Gemini Daily Brief for free users is now being rolled out by Google, allowing people without a paid Gemini subscription to access a feature that brings important daily information together in one place.
The feature combines information from Gmail, Google Calendar and conversations with Gemini.
It creates a personalised daily update so users can check important emails, upcoming events and tasks without opening multiple apps.
What Is Gemini Daily Brief?
Google introduced Daily Brief at its annual I/O developer conference in May. The feature is designed to give users a quick summary of important information they may need during the day.
It can use relevant information from Gmail, Calendar and Gemini conversations to prepare a daily update.
This can help users quickly understand what needs attention instead of checking each service separately.
Daily Brief is not simply a regular to-do list. Users can interact with Gemini about the tasks or information shown in the brief and ask for more details.
The feature can also show where the information came from, such as Gmail or Google Calendar. Users can open emails, write replies, schedule events and set reminders from the same location when those options are available.
Gemini Daily Brief for Free Users
The feature was initially offered as part of Gemini’s paid AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscriptions. Google is now extending access to free users with personal accounts in the US.
The move is part of Google’s wider effort to make Gemini a more useful personal AI assistant. Google is also replacing its older Google Assistant experience with Gemini.
For users, the Daily Brief could make Gemini more useful for managing everyday information rather than using it only as a chatbot for questions and answers.
How to Use Daily Brief
To use the feature, users need to connect Google Workspace to the Gemini app. They also need to turn on Memory in Gemini’s Personal Intelligence settings.
Google’s Smart features in other Google products setting must also be enabled. These permissions allow Gemini to use relevant context from connected Google services to prepare the daily update.
The feature is currently available to adult users with personal Google Accounts. It is not available for school and work Google Accounts.
Privacy Concerns to Keep in Mind
The convenience of the feature comes with access to personal information. Gemini can use information from Gmail, files and previous conversations to create a more useful daily summary.
Google has said that some information collected through Gemini may be used to improve its generative AI models. In some cases, emails
and files involved may also be summarised or have parts or results extracted from them for analysis.
Users who keep sensitive information in their Google accounts should therefore check their privacy settings before connecting their accounts to Gemini.
