October is a festive month, but it has started with a price hike in gas cylinders.
The price of a 19 kg LPG cylinder has increased by Rs 48.50 across the country, effective from October 1, 2024.
This increase applies specifically to the commercial 19 kg gas cylinder, while the rates for smaller household cylinders remain unchanged.
Below is a look at how the new prices have affected different major cities.
New LPG Prices in Major Cities
Delhi: The price of a 19 kg LPG cylinder in the capital has risen to Rs 1740 from Rs 1691.50, marking an increase of Rs 48.50.
Kolkata: The new price in Kolkata is Rs 1850.50, up by Rs 48 from the previous rate of Rs 1802.50 in September.
Mumbai: In Mumbai, the price has gone up to Rs 1692 from Rs 1644, reflecting an increase of Rs 48.
Chennai: The rate in Chennai has now reached Rs 1903, compared to Rs 1855 last month, a hike of Rs 48.
While the 19 kg commercial cylinders have seen a price jump, household cylinders (14.2 kg) have not been affected.
However, the increase in commercial gas cylinder prices may lead to higher food prices at restaurants, hotels, and roadside eateries that depend on these cylinders.
Continuous Rise in LPG Cylinder Prices
This marks the third consecutive month that commercial LPG cylinder prices have increased. In September, the price was raised by Rs 39, and in August, it went up by Rs 8-9.
From April to July 2024, there was actually a decrease in LPG prices, but since August, the cost has been rising steadily, with October being the latest hike.
