The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has introduced major changes to the rules for labeling food packages. These new rules will come into effect from July 1, 2027.

According to Zee Business Principal Correspondent Ambarish Pandey, the updated rules simplify labeling requirements. For example, full nutritional details will no longer be mandatory for children’s milk and food.

A new category has also been created for less processed foods like wheat, rice, pulses, fruits, and vegetables. For health supplements in tablet or capsule form, only vitamins and minerals need to be listed if the product is low in calories.
