The BJP-led Delhi government has announced a major relief for residents of the capital ahead of Holi. The Delhi Cabinet has approved a scheme to provide two free LPG cylinders every year to poor families.

Under this scheme, eligible families will receive one free cylinder on Holi and one on Diwali.

This decision fulfills an important promise made by the BJP during the Delhi Assembly elections.

Who Will Get the Benefit?

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Tuesday, February 3, that the scheme will benefit families with valid ration cards.

It is specially designed to support economically weak families in the national capital, especially women from low-income households.

Ration card holders and families belonging to the economically weaker section will be eligible for free LPG cylinders on Holi and Diwali. Even families using piped natural gas (PNG) connections will also be included in the scheme and will not be excluded.

How Will the Money Be Given?

Under the scheme, the Delhi government will transfer ₹853, which is equal to the price of one LPG cylinder, to eligible beneficiaries.

This money will be sent directly to their bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

The amount will be credited to beneficiaries’ bank accounts before Holi. The Delhi government has allocated ₹242 crore for this scheme.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the government is committed to fulfilling its election promises and helping poor families.
