Flipkart, a leading e-commerce platform, is expanding its presence in digital payments. The company has enhanced its offerings in recharge and bill payments.
Flipkart now covers Fastag, DTH recharges, landline, broadband, and mobile postpaid bill payments under a new category.
Customers can earn SuperCoins and avail offers up to 10% when using Flipkart UPI for transactions.
Flipkart launches 5 recharge and bill payment categories
On Wednesday, Flipkart introduced five new categories for recharge and bill payments on its app.
These include Fastag, DTH recharge, landline, broadband, and mobile postpaid bill payment.
Previously, Flipkart offered options like electricity and mobile prepaid recharge.
To integrate these new services, Flipkart has partnered with BillDesk, leveraging the Bharat Bill Payments System (BBPS) developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
Customers can now enjoy discounts of up to 10% through Supercoins when using Flipkart UPI.
BBPS processed 1.3 billion transactions
In the fiscal year 2024, BBPS (Bharat Bill Payment System) processed approximately 1.3 billion transactions.
This number is projected to surpass 3 billion by fiscal year 2026. Currently, BBPS supports over 20 types of bills and partners with more than 21,000 billers.
Over 70% of bill payments are now conducted digitally. Flipkart has responded to this growing demand by introducing new categories to cater to these trends.
People paying bills through electronic mode
Gaurav Arora, Vice President of Flipkart Payments and Supercoins, highlighted the rapid growth in the digital payment sector, noting a rising trend in electronic bill payments.
He emphasized Flipkart’s commitment to expanding its service offerings to ensure convenience for customers.
The goal is to establish Flipkart as a comprehensive platform where customers can securely make payments anytime, anywhere.
Ajay Kaushal, co-founder of BillDesk, expressed enthusiasm about partnering with Flipkart to provide these services.
