Flipkart Ends WFH, Calls Employees Back Full-Time

E-commerce giant Flipkart has officially ended the work-from-home (WFH) option for its employees.

The company has asked all staff to return to the office five days a week. Like many others, Flipkart introduced WFH during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

This policy continued for several years, but the company has been gradually phasing it out.

At first, Flipkart asked only senior employees—mainly vice presidents and above—to start working regularly from the office.

But now, according to a Flipkart employee speaking to Moneycontrol, all staff are required to come in five days a week.

Some Flexibility Still Remains

Even though office attendance is now mandatory, the return will happen gradually over the next few months. Some employees may still get exceptions based on their job roles.

Also, all employees have been given a limited number of WFH days they can use when needed. Flipkart has confirmed this update to Moneycontrol.

A Flipkart spokesperson said, “Most of our employees, including gig and contract workers, especially in field roles, have always worked from their assigned locations.

At our corporate headquarters, we’ve been returning to pre-COVID norms over the last year and have seen better team collaboration and communication.

Our aim is to build a strong sense of community and teamwork by bringing everyone back to the office.”

Amazon and Meesho Already Working Fully from Office

A few months ago, Amazon asked all its employees to return to the office in Bengaluru for five days a week.

The company is also moving its office from the World Trade Centre in Rajajinagar to a new campus in Devanahalli to fit everyone.

Meesho employees have already been working from the office full-time for over a year.

In the quick commerce sector, Flipkart is one of the last companies to fully end WFH and ask employees to return to the office.

Blinkit employees have been working from their Gurugram office for nearly a year. Zepto has also expanded its office space to accommodate its full workforce.

Swiggy remains the only company with a flexible work policy—most employees work three days from the office and two from home.

However, some teams go to the office every day depending on their work requirements.
