Mumbai :
With the festive season approaching, airfares across India are witnessing a sharp increase.
Analysis from travel portal ixigo reveals that average one-way ticket prices on major domestic routes have risen by 10-15% for Diwali.
Meanwhile, flights to cities in Kerala during Onam are experiencing even steeper fare hikes, with some routes seeing a 20-25% increase.
Specific Route Increases
For example, the Delhi-Chennai route in the economy category has seen a significant 25% rise, with average fares reaching ₹7,618 between October 30 and November 5,
compared to the same period last year.
Similarly, fares for the Mumbai-Hyderabad route have jumped by 21% to ₹5,162,
while the Delhi-Goa and Delhi-Ahmedabad routes have seen increases of 19% and 16%, respectively.
Impact of Rising Demand
According to Rajnish Kumar, co-CEO of the ixigo Group, the surge in demand for travel during Diwali is contributing to the higher airfares.
Although most routes are seeing increased prices, some routes like Bengaluru-Hyderabad and Mumbai-Jammu have lower fares compared to last year,
reflecting varied demand across different regions.
