Finance Minister launches Mobile App for PM Internship Scheme

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has introduced a mobile app for the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme and encouraged more companies to participate.

Through this app, applicants can easily apply for internships. She also urged Members of Parliament (MPs) to motivate young people to take advantage of this opportunity.

Internship Opportunities for Youth

The pilot project of this scheme, which aims to provide 1.25 lakh internship opportunities during the financial year 2024-25, was initially launched on October 3, 2024.

Speaking at the launch event in the national capital, Sitharaman highlighted that the scheme is designed to help youth from tier II and III cities understand industry-required skills and job opportunities.

Encouraging Industry Participation

The Finance Minister emphasized that there is a gap between industry expectations and available talent, and this scheme aims to bridge that gap.

She clarified that the scheme does not impose any pressure or interference on industries but serves the national interest.

She encouraged more companies to participate, stating that industries should open their doors to provide young people with exposure to real-world job requirements.

Application Deadline for Second Round

Minister of State for Corporate Affairs Harsh Malhotra stated that the scheme offers valuable hands-on experience, helping youth contribute to India’s development.

In the first round of the pilot project, over 1.27 lakh internship opportunities were offered by companies.

The second round began in January 2025, with around 327 companies offering 1.18 lakh internships. The deadline to apply for the second round is March 31, 2025.
