There’s positive news for FASTag users across India. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced new rules to make the FASTag experience easier and more convenient.
The updated process simplifies the “Know Your Vehicle” (KYV) verification, helping vehicle owners complete it quickly and avoid any interruption in their FASTag services.
What is KYV and Why Does It Matter?
KYV (Know Your Vehicle) is a mandatory verification process for all FASTag users. It ensures that each FASTag is correctly linked to the vehicle it was issued for.
To complete KYV, users need to upload their vehicle’s photo and registration details.
This process improves transparency and prevents misuse — such as using one FASTag for multiple vehicles or carrying a FASTag without an actual vehicle.
New Rules by NHAI
Earlier, users had to upload both front and side photos of their vehicles, which was inconvenient.
Now, under the new rules from the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), you only need to upload a front photo that clearly shows the number plate and FASTag.
When you enter your vehicle number, chassis number, or mobile number, your registration details will automatically appear through the Vahan portal.
If multiple vehicles are registered under the same mobile number, you can select the specific vehicle for completing the KYV process.
FASTag Services Will Remain Active
Previously, if the KYV process was not completed, the FASTag service was immediately disabled.
Under the new system, this will no longer happen right away.
Users will now receive enough time and SMS reminders to finish the KYV before any action is taken.
Support for Users
If you face any difficulty completing the KYV process, you can contact your FASTag-issuing bank for help.
Alternatively, you can call the NHAI helpline number 1033 for assistance or to file a complaint.
