FASTag has made highway toll payments much faster and more convenient.

Instead of stopping to pay cash, drivers can simply recharge their FASTag and pass through toll plazas smoothly.

However, while recharging your FASTag, you need to be careful.

A small mistake could result in losing money and even create problems during your highway journey.

Fake FASTag Websites Are Trapping Users

Cybercriminals are now targeting FASTag users by creating fake recharge websites.

These websites look similar to official portals and trick people into entering their payment details.

When users try to recharge their FASTag through these fake portals, the money does not go to their FASTag wallet.

Instead, it gets transferred directly to the fraudsters’ bank accounts.

Government Cyber Agency Issues Warning

Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), an agency under the Ministry of Home Affairs, has warned people about this growing scam.

The warning was shared through the CyberDost initiative on the social media platform X.

The post explained how scammers are creating fake websites in the name of the National Highways Authority of India to cheat FASTag users.

A video shared in the post shows how a user searching online for a FASTag recharge is directed to a fake website suggested by a friend.

Once the payment is made, the money goes straight to the scammers.

How to Identify a Fake Website

Spotting a fake website is often easier than it seems.

The most important thing to check is the website URL.

Always look carefully at the spelling of the web address.

Fraudulent websites often use slightly altered names or unusual spellings to look like official portals.

Poor-quality images and suspicious page designs can also be warning signs.

Use Only Official Apps and Portals

To stay safe, always recharge your FASTag through official platforms.

You can use the official portal of the National Highways Authority of India or the Rajmargyatra app.

This app is available on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store and helps users manage FASTag services securely.

Using trusted platforms can help you avoid fraud and ensure your highway travel remains smooth and hassle-free.
