Facebook and Instagram feeds get smarter with Meta AI

Meta is bringing a major change to Facebook and Instagram. Starting December 16, 2025, the platforms will use your interactions with Meta AI—the company’s chatbot and AI tools—to decide which posts and ads you see.

To prepare users, Meta will start sending notifications and emails about this update from October 7, 2025.

How Meta AI Will Influence Your Feed

Until now, Facebook and Instagram showed content based on your likes, follows, and other activity.

With this update, your chats with Meta AI, whether through text or voice, will also shape what appears in your feed.

For example, if you ask Meta AI about hiking, you might see hiking groups, reels about trails, or ads for outdoor gear.

In short, your AI conversations could directly influence posts and ads you encounter.

Privacy and Control

Meta assures that users remain in control.

You can still use tools like Ads Preferences and feed controls to adjust what content you see.

Sensitive topics like health, politics, religion, or sexual orientation will not be used for ad targeting, even if discussed with Meta AI.

Data from Meta AI will only be used across linked accounts in the Accounts Centre.

For example, if your WhatsApp account is not linked, its AI interactions will not affect Instagram or Facebook recommendations.

This update is expected to make feeds and ads more personalized for users while keeping privacy protections in place.
