The pollution level in the country’s capital, Delhi, has become extremely serious. To control vehicle-related pollution and give a New Year’s relief to Delhi residents, the government is preparing to introduce a new Electric Vehicle (EV) policy.
According to Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Singh, this new EV policy will be implemented in the capital within the next 15 to 20 days.
The policy aims to reduce pollution and also provide benefits to people buying electric vehicles. Buyers of new EVs will get subsidies along with lower registration fees.
Subsidy Details Under the New EV Policy
Under the upcoming EV policy, buyers of electric two-wheelers will receive a subsidy of ₹10,000 per kilowatt, with a maximum limit of ₹30,000. For women buyers, this subsidy is expected to be higher, at around ₹36,000.
The government’s goal is to reduce pollution from the transport sector by 25 to 30 percent. To encourage more people to switch to electric vehicles in Delhi, the policy also offers a 100 percent discount on road tax and registration fees for EVs.
This will significantly lower the on-road price of electric vehicles.
Vehicle Restrictions Due to Severe Pollution
As pollution levels have reached the severe category, the government has enforced GRAP Stage 4. Under this stage, strict rules have been imposed on vehicle entry, movement, and even the availability of petrol and diesel.
Only BS-6 vehicles registered in other states are allowed to enter Delhi. The entry of all other vehicles, including BS-2, BS-3, and BS-4 categories, has been banned until further notice.
This ban applies to private cars, taxis, school buses, and commercial vehicles. Vehicles coming from other states and operating in Delhi will also be checked by authorities.
