Yet, many EPF account holders don’t know that they can check their PF balance and recent contributions without visiting the EPFO office or logging in to a website.

The EPFO provides easy and free ways to check your balance through missed calls or SMS. Here’s how you can do it.

What You Need Before Checking PF Balance

To use the missed call or SMS feature, you must ensure the following:

You can activate your UAN by visiting the EPFO portal at: https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in

  2. Your mobile number must be linked to your UAN
Only the registered number will be able to use these services.

  3. At least one KYC document (like Aadhaar or PAN) must be linked to your UAN
Without KYC, the balance check feature will not work.

How to Check PF Balance via Missed Call

Once the above conditions are met, checking your balance is easy:

Step 1: Give a missed call to 9966044425 from your UAN-linked mobile number.
The call will disconnect automatically after two rings. You won’t be charged.

Step 2: You will receive an SMS shortly with details of your latest EPF contributions and current balance.

This service is free and available 24×7.

How to Check PF Balance via SMS

EPFO also allows you to check your account details through SMS.

Step 1: Open your phone’s messaging app.

Step 2: Type the message in this format: EPFOHO UAN

Step 3: Send this message to 7738299899 from your registered mobile number.

You’ll get a response in English by default. But EPFO offers messages in other languages too—Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Bengali.

Just add the first three letters of your preferred language to the end of the message.

For example:

For Telugu: EPFOHO UAN TEL

For Hindi: EPFOHO UAN HIN

For Tamil: EPFOHO UAN TAM

EPFO’s missed call and SMS services are especially useful for people who don’t have internet access.

These simple methods help you keep track of your PF account anytime. Just make sure your UAN is active, a KYC document is linked, and your mobile number is registered.
