UAN Activation Deadline: The Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has given big relief to lakhs of employees by extending the last date for activating the Universal Account Number (UAN) and linking it with Aadhaar.
The new deadline is now June 30, 2025, instead of the earlier May 31 deadline.
This extension will especially help unorganized and contract workers who have not yet activated their UAN or faced difficulties activating it before the earlier deadline.
It gives more time to benefit from the ELI (Employees’ Life Insurance) scheme.
What is the ELI or EDLI scheme?
The Employees’ Life Insurance (ELI) scheme is officially called the Employees’ Deposit Linked Insurance (EDLI).
It provides life insurance coverage to EPF members. If an employee dies while in service, their nominee gets a lump sum insurance amount.
This amount can be up to ₹7 lakh and is available only if the employee’s UAN is active and linked with Aadhaar.
Why is UAN activation necessary?
To claim benefits like EPF or EDLI, the employee’s UAN must be active and Aadhaar linked. An active UAN verifies the employee’s identity with EPFO and ensures their records are updated.
This helps employees easily access insurance benefits, pension (EPS), PF withdrawals, and other claims.
Who should activate their UAN?
Everyone who wants to use EPFO services must activate their UAN. Pay special attention if your Aadhaar is not linked to your UAN.
Also, if your employer added you to the scheme but your UAN is not yet active, you should activate it immediately.
How to activate UAN?
UAN activation is simple and done online. Follow these steps on the EPFO member portal:
Go to https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in
Click on the “Activate UAN” link
Enter your UAN, name, date of birth, Aadhaar number, and mobile number
Verify with the OTP sent to your mobile
Set your login details
Once activated, employees can check their PF balance, claim status, and update KYC details online.
