Indian tourists may soon be allowed to carry up to ₹4.25 lakh in cash while entering Nepal by road. The Nepal government is expected to approve this change soon.
At present, Indian travelers can only carry ₹25,000 in cash if they are entering Nepal by land. However, those flying into Nepal are already allowed to carry up to ₹4.25 lakh.
Current Limit for Land Travelers is ₹25,000
As of now, Indian tourists entering Nepal by land can only bring ₹25,000 in cash. This rule has been in place for some time and is seen as too restrictive by Nepal’s business community.
In contrast, air travelers from India already have permission to carry cash up to $5,000, which is around ₹4.25 lakh.
FNCCI Requests Change in Rules
The Federation of Nepali Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Nepal’s main business group, has requested the government to increase the cash limit for Indian tourists coming by road.
FNCCI President Chandra Prasad Dhakal said this issue was raised during a pre-budget meeting with Nepal’s Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel.
Equal Rules for All Travelers
Dhakal questioned why air travelers are allowed to bring ₹4.25 lakh, but those coming by road are restricted to just ₹25,000.
He argued that the same rule should apply to both groups of travelers to avoid confusion and support tourism growth.
Boost for Tourism and Local Business
To improve tourism and trade, Dhakal also suggested that better roads, facilities, and border check posts should be developed along the Nepal-India border.
He also recommended stable government policies and a well-planned tax system to encourage both local and foreign investment in Nepal.
These changes would not only increase tourism but also help create jobs and support local businesses.
