Aviation (DGCA) has issued new draft guidelines that could soon allow passengers to cancel or modify their flight tickets within 48 hours of booking — completely free of charge.
If these rules are approved, passengers who need to change or cancel their tickets due to emergencies will no longer face financial losses.
How Will Passengers Benefit?
Under the proposed rules, air travelers will get a 48-hour free window after booking to make any changes or cancellations.
This means that if a passenger changes their travel plans within two days of booking, no extra fee will be charged.
The DGCA has also directed airlines to process refunds for cancelled or modified tickets faster, ensuring passengers get their money back quickly.
Why Is DGCA Making These Changes?
The DGCA has received several complaints from passengers about high cancellation
and modification charges imposed by airlines. Consumer organizations have also raised similar concerns.
To protect passengers’ interests, the DGCA is introducing these changes to create a fair balance between travelers and airlines.
The new rules aim to give passengers more flexibility, reduce disputes, and speed up the refund process — bringing significant relief to air travelers.
