Residents of Delhi will soon be able to pay their property tax using just their Aadhaar card number.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is preparing to introduce this new system within this year.

For this, the Unique Property Identification Code (UPIC) will be linked with Aadhaar numbers.

Once implemented, this change is expected to make property tax payments faster and more convenient for citizens.

Approval Received, Implementation Coming Soon

MCD officials have confirmed that approval for this system has been received from the National Informatics Center (NIC).

A meeting with Delhi government officials is expected next week, after which a formal notification will be issued.

As soon as the notification is released, the corporation will roll out the Aadhaar-based property tax payment system.

Power Company Data to Expand Taxpayer Base

The corporation is also integrating data from power distribution companies.

This will help create a more accurate record of all properties across Delhi.

At present, Delhi has around 13 lakh registered property taxpayers.

With the addition of power company data, this number could increase to over 50 lakh properties, bringing more buildings under the property tax system.

Record Property Tax Collection So Far

According to officials, the corporation has already collected ₹2,705 crore in property tax during the 2025–26 financial year, the highest ever collection by January.

The target for this financial year is ₹3,200 crore by March 31, and officials are confident of achieving it within this month.

How Aadhaar Linking Will Benefit Citizens

After Aadhaar is linked with UPIC, taxpayers will be able to pay property tax by simply entering their Aadhaar number on the official MCD website: mcdonline.nic.in/portal.

This system will apply to both residential and commercial properties and will offer several benefits:

Property tax dues can be checked easily using an Aadhaar number

Property transfer records will be updated instantly once the Aadhaar of both buyer and seller is linked

Property record verification through the MCD Property Tax Department will become faster and easier

Overall, this move is expected to simplify property tax payments, improve record accuracy, and save valuable time for Delhi residents.
