The Railways has imposed a four-day ban on all parcel transactions in the Delhi region from January 23 to January 26.

According to Hitesh Yadav, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of North Western Railway, the restriction applies to major Delhi railway stations, including New Delhi, Delhi Junction, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar Terminal, Delhi Sarai Rohilla, and Adarsh Nagar.

During this period, parcel warehouses and packing activities at railway premises will remain closed.

All types of parcel movement—both incoming and outgoing—will be completely halted.

What Will and Will Not Be Allowed

The ban covers all trains operating on the Delhi route, regardless of the railway division or zone.

Services using leased SLRs, AGCs, and VPSs will not be permitted for parcel transport.

Passengers will only be allowed to carry personal belongings in passenger coaches.

Registered newspapers and magazines may still be booked, but only after completing all mandatory commercial formalities.

Impact on Traders and Businesses

This decision is expected to directly affect traders, wholesalers, and businesses that rely on railway parcel services in the Delhi region.

The four-day suspension could delay the supply and delivery of essential goods, especially for businesses dependent on time-sensitive shipments.

authorities have advised traders to make alternative arrangements in advance to avoid disruptions.

Why the Railways Took This Step

Railway officials clarified that this move is a precautionary security measure.

With high-level security arrangements in place for Republic Day, the temporary ban aims to prevent any potential security risks or suspicious activities involving parcels.

Parcel booking and transportation services will resume normally from January 27, once the Republic Day celebrations conclude.
