Delhi, Mumbai Face Heavy Rain Red Alert – Hailstorm Alert for UP, Rajasthan

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall in several parts of the country, including Delhi-NCR and Mumbai.

Hailstorms and thunderstorms are likely in isolated parts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Maharashtra in the next 24 hours.

Winds between 50-70 km/h are also expected to accompany the rain. The southwest monsoon has become active in Jharkhand, leading to widespread rain, which is expected to continue until June 20.

Rain Alert in Delhi-NCR

The IMD has forecast moderate rain, thunder, and lightning for areas like Narela, Dilshad Garden, IGI Airport, and Ayanagar in Delhi.

Rain and stormy conditions are expected to persist in Delhi for the next few days. Heavy rain is predicted on Thursday in some parts of the national capital.

Maharashtra: Red, Orange, and Yellow Alerts

The IMD has issued heavy rain warnings for Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar for June 19.

  • Raigad and Ratnagiri districts may see very heavy rainfall, and an orange alert has been issued for both.

  • A yellow alert has been issued for Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar.

These regions have already received heavy rainfall since the beginning of the week, and the conditions are likely to continue till June 22.

Rain may reduce in Palghar after June 19, but moderate to heavy rains will continue in Mumbai and Thane.

For Raigad and Ratnagiri, a yellow alert is in place from June 20 to 22.

Jharkhand: Public Caution Issued

The Ranchi district administration has urged residents to stay away from low-lying areas, avoid unnecessary travel, and be cautious on waterlogged roads.

The IMD has predicted heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in parts of Jharkhand until June 20.

Odisha: Heavy Rain till June 24

Heavy rainfall is expected in many parts of Odisha due to a low-pressure area near West Bengal moving toward Jharkhand.

Under its impact, Odisha may receive heavy to extremely heavy rainfall from June 18 to 24.

On Thursday, 14 out of 30 districts in Odisha are on alert:

  • Red alert for Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar

  • Orange alert for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, and Balasore

  • Yellow alert for Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, and Bhadrak

Lightning and gusty winds (30-40 km/h) are likely in Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri. This weather pattern may continue till June 25.

Rajasthan: Monsoon Arrives Early

The southwest monsoon has reached parts of Rajasthan seven days earlier than usual.

According to the Jaipur IMD center, the monsoon reached Barmer, Jodhpur, and Jaipur on June 18.

It is expected to advance into more areas of the state within the next two to three days.

Warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall have been issued for many districts in Rajasthan, with red, orange, and yellow alerts in place.

West Bengal Also on Alert

Kolkata and other districts of West Bengal are also under red, orange, and yellow alerts due to expected heavy rainfall.
