The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, India’s longest access-controlled highway connecting New Delhi and Mumbai, has introduced major toll cuts in 2026.

The government has approved reductions of up to 50% on select stretches, especially where construction and widening works are still ongoing.

This move aims to reduce travel costs for motorists and ensure smoother traffic flow, while keeping logistics and freight transport efficient along this important corridor.

What Has Changed in Toll Rates?

The toll reduction applies to sections of the expressway that are still under construction or being expanded from two lanes to four or more.

Earlier, these stretches charged higher fees compared to standard national highways due to unfinished roads and traffic diversions.

Under the new policy:

Toll charges previously around 60% of the standard rate are now cut to 30%.

The reduction provides immediate savings for private cars, commercial vehicles, and freight transport.

The revised tolls may continue for up to one year or until the construction is fully complete.

This approach helps reduce the financial burden on travelers and encourages greater use of the corridor despite partial closures.

Why the Toll Cuts Matter

The reduction is significant for all types of road users:

Private motorists save money on long journeys connecting Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra.

Commercial vehicles and logistics fleets benefit from lower operating costs, which could also reduce freight charges.

Long-distance travel remains attractive even amid ongoing construction, helping maintain traffic and utilization of the expressway.

The decision also fits into broader government reforms aimed at revising toll calculations for highways with complex structures or elevated sections.

Looking Ahead

Not all sections of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway are fully operational yet, but the phased toll reductions help ensure smooth travel and maintain user goodwill.

As more stretches are completed, toll rates may adjust further to match the final operational status of the expressway.
