Delhi Metro Introduces UPI Payments for Token Purchase: Step-by-Step Process

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced a convenient new payment option for commuters.

Passengers can now use the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) to pay for tokens at ticket vending machines and customer care centers.

This feature will also enable UPI payments for smart card recharges and Metro QR ticket purchases across all stations in the Delhi-NCR network.

The DMRC initially introduced the UPI facility on select ticket vending machines in Noida and Ghaziabad sections back in 2018.

Now, this service is being expanded network-wide to more than 125 stations.

The introduction of UPI payments aims to provide faster and safer transactions, making ticketing services more convenient and modernizing public transport in Delhi/NCR.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to buy tokens using UPI:

  1. At the Ticket Vending Machine (TVM):
    • Choose the service you wish to use (e.g., Token Purchase).
    • Select the UPI payment option among the available payment methods.
    • The TVM will display the amount for payment.
    • On the screen, you will see a QR code representing the UPI payment.
    • Use your mobile’s UPI-enabled app to scan the QR code.
    • Complete the payment process on your mobile app.
    • Once the UPI payment is authorized, you will receive your token, or your smart card will be recharged.
  2. At the Customer Service Center:
    • Inform the operator that you want to make a UPI payment.
    • In the payment options menu at the customer service center, select UPI as your preferred method.
    • A QR code will appear on the passenger PID screen (display screen).
    • Scan the QR code using your UPI-enabled app on your smartphone.
    • Proceed to make the payment using your UPI app.
    • Once the payment is successfully processed, you will receive your token.

With this hassle-free payment option, Delhi Metro passengers can now experience the convenience of using UPI for seamless and contactless transactions at various touchpoints.

Embracing digital payments will further enhance the travel experience and promote a safer and modern public transportation system in the region.
