The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced a major relief for passengers returning to Delhi after celebrating Diwali and Chhath Puja.
To manage the festive rush, the metro’s operating hours have been revised between October 30 and November 3, 2025.
During this period, the metro will start earlier than usual to handle heavy passenger traffic at railway stations across Delhi-NCR.
Revised Morning Schedule
According to DMRC, the first metro train from the New Delhi (Yellow Line) and Anand Vihar ISBT (Blue and Pink Lines) will now depart at 5:15 a.m. instead of the usual 6:00 a.m..
This change aims to help passengers returning from long-distance trains during the busy festive season.
Relief for Early Morning Passengers
The move will particularly benefit travelers arriving at New Delhi and Anand Vihar railway stations, which are often crowded with overnight passengers in the morning.
These passengers will now be able to take the metro immediately after arriving, without waiting for services to start.
Interchange and Crowd Management
DMRC confirmed that all interchange facilities will operate as usual at major stations, allowing passengers to switch lines smoothly.
The change is intended to prevent overcrowding and ensure comfortable travel during the high-traffic festive period.
Extra Trips to Curb Pollution
In addition to handling crowds, DMRC has announced 40 extra metro trips on weekdays to promote public transport use and reduce air pollution in Delhi.
Officials added that if the third phase of GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan) is enforced, the number of additional trips could be increased to 60 to further reduce traffic congestion and pollution.
Preparedness for Post-Festival Rush
Both New Delhi and Anand Vihar stations are expected to witness heavy rush after the festivals.
To manage this, additional metro services will operate from these stations so that passengers can travel easily without long waits or discomfort.
