Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the Delhi government will launch the ‘Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana’ on April 1, 2026, replacing the old ‘Ladli Yojana’ that started in 2008.

She said the new scheme is an upgraded version of the Ladli Yojana, aimed at providing better financial support to girls in Delhi.

Under this scheme, girls will receive financial assistance from birth until graduation or diploma-level education. The total maturity amount will be at least ₹1 lakh.

Financial Benefits and Payment Structure

The Chief Minister explained that under the new scheme, the government will provide financial assistance of up to ₹56,000 to each beneficiary.

This amount will be given in installments at different stages of age and education, starting from birth and continuing until graduation.

The money will be invested through a structured financial instrument so that it grows over time.

Once the amount matures, it will be transferred directly to the beneficiary’s Aadhaar-linked bank account. The government will also launch a dedicated digital portal for the scheme.

The estimated cost of implementing this upgraded scheme is around ₹160 crore.

Benefits for Two Girls in Each Family

Under the Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana, financial assistance will be provided to two girls from each family. The government has increased the earlier amount from ₹36,000 to ₹56,000, which means an increase of ₹20,000.

Earlier, the maturity amount was available after completing the 12th standard, but now it will be given after graduation. The government aims to include all eligible girls in Delhi under this scheme.

However, there will be some conditions. If a girl is married before the age of 18, she will not receive the benefits of the scheme.

Distribution of Funds and Unclaimed Accounts

The Chief Minister said that after coming to power, the government found that funds related to the Ladli Yojana were lying unused in banks.

Around 41,000 beneficiary girls have been identified, and the government plans to distribute ₹100 crore among them.

She also revealed that more than 1.86 lakh mature Ladli Yojana accounts were unclaimed, meaning the funds did not reach the beneficiaries on time.

The government considers this scheme an investment in the future of girls and aims to ensure that no girl misses education due to lack of money.

Eligibility Criteria for the Scheme

The Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana will apply to girls who meet the following conditions:

The girl must be born in Delhi.

The family must have lived in Delhi for at least three years.

The annual family income must not exceed ₹1.20 lakh.

The benefit is limited to two surviving girls per family.

The Ladli Yojana will now be known as the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana, reflecting its stronger and long-term impact on the lives of girls in Delhi.
