Getting a general train ticket may soon become much easier for daily passengers in Delhi-NCR.
Indian Railways is planning to expand its mobile ticketing service to smaller halt stations, not just big railway stations.
This move is aimed at one simple goal—helping passengers avoid long queues and save time.
UTS Mobile Service Expanding to More Stations
Right now, the UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System) mobile service is mainly available at major stations. But soon, even halt stations will be included.
Railway officials have been asked to identify which halt stations can support this service.
Once implemented, passengers will be able to book unreserved tickets directly from their phones or through authorized agents at the station.
To make things smoother, the Railways has already:
Introduced mobile apps for ticket booking
Installed UTS machines at big stations
Hired agents who issue tickets using mobile devices
Now, the same convenience is being planned for smaller stations too.
Trial Success Paved the Way
Before bringing this plan to Delhi-NCR, Southern Railway tested it at 10 halt stations for nearly a year.
The results were positive, which encouraged expansion.
Based on this success, the Railways is now preparing to roll out the service in and around Delhi.
A tender process will soon begin to officially start operations at selected halt stations.
Why This Move Matters
Many halt stations in Delhi-NCR see heavy crowds, especially during peak hours.
Places like Mangolpuri, Holambi Kalan, and Patel Nagar often have long queues for general tickets.
On top of that, poor internet connectivity sometimes makes digital ticketing difficult.
Since the UTS mobile service depends on mobile internet, improving access at these stations will be important.
