The Delhi government is set to make your Holi and Diwali celebrations brighter.

In a recent cabinet meeting, the government approved a free gas cylinder scheme.

Under this program, eligible Delhi residents will receive free LPG cylinders during these festive occasions.

This move fulfills a promise made by the BJP in its assembly election manifesto.

A budget of ₹300 crore has been allocated, and it is expected that over 17 lakh citizens will benefit from this scheme.

Who Will Get Free Gas Cylinders

The scheme is aimed at the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) in Delhi.

Currently, Delhi has 17.18 lakh ration card holders, and these people are expected to benefit first.

The verification process for ration card holders has already been completed, ensuring that the benefits reach the right people.

How to Claim Your Cylinder

The government will not deliver cylinders to homes directly. Instead, the subsidy money will be transferred via DBT to the beneficiary’s Aadhaar-linked bank account on the occasions of Holi and Diwali.

This approach is similar to a scheme already running in Uttar Pradesh, where poor households are directly credited for gas cylinder benefits.

Rs 500 Gas Cylinder Scheme Still Pending

Apart from the free festive cylinders, the Delhi government had also promised to provide LPG cylinders to poor families for just ₹500.

However, this scheme has not yet been launched. Officials are still deciding which categories of people will be eligible, whether it will include all ration card holders or only beneficiaries of the PM Ujjwala Yojana.

This festive initiative shows the government’s effort to support low-income families while fulfilling election promises, making festivals a little brighter for many in Delhi.
