Delhi Govt starts ‘Mohalla Bus’ Service for Commuters: Check Routes and Fares

The introduction of ‘Mohalla buses’ aims to enhance public transport and connectivity in Delhi.

Kailash Gehlot, Transport Minister in the Delhi government led by the Aam Aadmi Party, inaugurated the initial trial of the Mohalla Bus Service on Monday.

A fleet of 2180 mini electric buses will operate under this service, covering routes spanning 10 to 12 kilometers. Women will enjoy free travel on these buses.

Let’s explore the Delhi Government’s Mohalla Bus Service

What is Mohalla Bus Service?

The Mohalla Bus Service features mini electric buses measuring 9 meters in length, aimed at providing last-mile connectivity.

These fully air-conditioned buses are specifically designed to navigate narrow roads and congested areas effectively.

Why is this service being started?

The goal of the Mohalla Bus Service is to offer feeder bus services to Delhi residents near their homes using 9-meter-long electric buses.

By 2025, the Delhi government aims to introduce a total of 2180 such buses, focusing on areas with narrow roads or congestion.

This includes 1,040 buses from DTC and 1,040 buses from DMTS.

The maximum route length for these Mohalla buses is 10 km.

Trial started on 2 routes

Kailash Gehlot announced that the Delhi Government’s Transport Department has begun a week-long trial period.

Feedback will guide adjustments during this phase.

Currently, trials are operational on two routes: from Majlis Park to Burari and from Akshardham to Mayur Vihar Phase 3.

Depots have been established in South, West, North, and East Delhi to support these buses.

The route will be up to 12 km long

The buses will operate within a 12 km radius of the metro station. Each Mohalla bus will be powered by six battery packs, totaling 196 kW in capacity.

They can cover over 200 km on a single charge, which takes approximately 45 minutes.

How many passengers will be able to travel in Mohalla buses?

The 9-meter Mohalla buses feature 23 passenger seats and additional standing room for 13 passengers.

They are painted green, with 25 percent of the seats (6 seats) reserved in pink specifically for women passengers.

How much is the fare?

The fare for Mohalla buses will align with that of Delhi government’s AC buses, set at Rs 10, 15, and 20.

Additionally, travel on these buses will be free for women passengers.

How many stops will there be for the first route of Mohalla buses?

As per the Delhi government, the first trial route of Mohalla buses from Majlis Park to Pradhan Enclave will include a total of 14 stops.

These stops are: Pradhan Enclave Pushta (Little Star School), Pradhan Enclave A-Block, Baba Colony Pushta, Apex School, Jagatpur Mor, Milan Vihar Chowk, Jhorda Police Chowki (Kayakalp Hospital), Sangam Vihar Gali No. 4, Jharoda Metro Station, Hardev Nagar, Burari Metro Station, Burari Crossing, Mukundpur Chauraha, and Majlis Park Metro Station.
