The Delhi government has introduced strict new traffic rules aimed at improving road safety and making traffic management more efficient in the capital.
These changes have been announced by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) through an official social media post.
The main focus is to ensure accountability and faster resolution of traffic violations.
Under the new system, traffic rule breakers may face serious consequences, including suspension of their driving license and vehicle-related services if they fail to follow the rules.
Challan Must Be Paid Within 45 Days
One of the biggest changes is the strict deadline for paying traffic challans.
Now, anyone who receives a challan must clear it within 45 days.
If the challan is not paid within this time limit, the government may temporarily suspend key services such as:
Driving license validity
Vehicle registration services
This step has been taken to ensure that penalties are taken seriously and not ignored for long periods.
Stricter Action for Repeated Violations
The new rules also target repeat offenders.
If a person breaks traffic rules five times in a single year, their driving license can be suspended.
In addition, if a challan is not challenged within the allowed time, it will automatically be treated as accepted.
However, citizens still have the option to dispute it.
The process includes:
First, an online option to challenge the challan
If unresolved, the case can be taken to court
Focus on Road Safety and Accountability
According to the Delhi CMO, these reforms have been introduced under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
The aim is to make the traffic system more transparent, efficient, and responsible.
By enforcing stricter timelines and penalties, the government hopes to improve discipline on
