The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is introducing a new public hearing system to address resident complaints related to DDA flats.
According to a recent circular from DDA Housing Deputy Director Chinmay Chakraborty, site engineers will conduct these hearings to listen to residents and resolve their concerns.
The hearings will focus mainly on maintenance issues, security, and the general upkeep of housing pockets.
In-charges of various flats and site engineers will participate to ensure that issues are properly addressed.
These sessions will be held every Wednesday from 2:30 to 4:30 pm.
How the Public Hearing System Works
The circular directs site engineers and pocket in-charges to maintain complete records of both the issues raised and the attendees.
They are expected to resolve complaints promptly, while chief engineers in each zone will oversee the smooth functioning of the system.
DDA has been active in housing since 1967 and has launched more than 50 housing schemes.
By 2022, it aimed to have over 240 RWAs.
Many older flats, however, face recurring infrastructure and maintenance problems, which residents frequently report.
Why the System Was Needed
Residents, especially RWAs, have long been frustrated with maintenance issues.
In the past, complaints were often ignored or unresolved at the local level, forcing residents to make repeated trips to DDA headquarters.
Although link officers were assigned to each RWA to help with grievances, many issues remained pending.
With this weekly public hearing system, the DDA aims to bring problem-solving closer to the residents and make the complaint process more efficient.
This initiative is expected to improve communication between residents and authorities while ensuring timely action on maintenance concerns.
