If you use FASTag while driving on highways, there’s some good news for you.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has simplified the KYV (Know Your Vehicle) process to make verification faster and more convenient.
With this update, users will also get more time to complete the KYV process, reducing the risk of their FASTag accounts being closed due to delays.
What Has Changed in the FASTag KYV Rules
According to the new NHAI guidelines, vehicle owners no longer need to upload a side photo of their car, jeep, or van for verification.
A front photo showing the FASTag and number plate is now enough.
Once users enter their vehicle number, chassis number, or mobile number, the system will automatically fetch the RC (Registration Certificate) details from the Vahan Portal.
If multiple vehicles are linked to the same mobile number, users can easily select the one they want to verify.
Existing FASTag users also don’t need to worry — their tags will stay active unless there’s misuse or fake tag activity.
Banks will also send SMS reminders to complete the KYV on time.
Why NHAI Introduced This New Process
The new KYV rules aim to stop misuse of FASTags and make the system more transparent.
NHAI and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) received complaints that some heavy vehicles, like trucks, were using FASTags meant for smaller vehicles to pay lower tolls.
To fix this, the new system verifies whether a FASTag is being used by the correct vehicle.
It also ensures that all details in the database match accurately.
Step-by-Step Guide to Complete Your KYV
Take a front photo of your vehicle showing the FASTag and number plate clearly.
(If required) upload a side photo showing the wheels.
Upload a scanned copy of your vehicle’s RC.
Log in to the FASTag portal or your bank’s website using your mobile number and OTP.
Go to ‘My Profile’ → ‘KYC’ tab and upload the documents.
The bank will verify the details with the Vahan database.
If any information is incorrect, your KYV will not be approved.
You must complete KYV verification every three years to keep your details updated and avoid misuse.
