Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), a natural gas distribution company, has announced a hike in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) prices.
The price of CNG has increased by ₹1 to ₹3 per kg, with the hike taking effect from Monday, April 7. In Delhi, the price has gone up by ₹1 per kg, while in other cities, the increase is ₹3 per kg.
CNG Price Increase Details
IGL’s announcement on April 7 will bring the price of CNG in Delhi to ₹76.09 per kg. In Noida and Ghaziabad, the price will rise to ₹84.70 per kg.
This is the first price hike in the Delhi market since June 2024. CNG prices in other cities have seen an increase of ₹3 per kg.
Delhi contributes about 70% of IGL’s total CNG sales, with the remaining 30% from other markets.
Reason for the Hike
The price increase follows the government’s decision to raise the gas prices under the Administered Price Mechanism (APM).
APM gas prices have been set at $6.75 per mmBtu for the period between April and September 2025.
This marks the first price increase since April 2023, in line with the Kirit Parikh panel’s recommendations.
In February, brokerage firm Jefferies suggested that a ₹2 per kg price increase would be enough for IGL to maintain its current margins.
Impact on Stocks and Market
IGL’s stock is expected to be active on April 7 following the price hike announcement.
As of the last market close, IGL shares had fallen 30% from their peak, while MGL shares were down by 33%.
The latest price hike is expected to have an impact on how IGL and MGL react in the coming days.
