Leading French carmaker Citroën has taken a big step regarding its coupe-SUV, the Citroen Basalt. The company has increased the price of this model by up to ₹40,000.

When the Basalt was first launched, it came with an attractive starting price to draw early buyers. However, the company had already made it clear that these were introductory prices.

Now, after the festive season, the revised pricing has come into effect, making the SUV costlier than before.

Price Hike: How Much More You’ll Pay Now

The price increase varies depending on the variant. The base ‘You’ variant has seen a smaller hike, while the top-end turbo petrol variants have become significantly more expensive.

Earlier, the starting ex-showroom price of the Basalt was ₹7.99 lakh. Now, it has gone up to around ₹8.49 lakh. The SUV is available in three trims — You, Plus, and Max.

According to Citroën, the price revision was necessary due to rising costs and changing market conditions. Even after the hike, the company claims that the Basalt remains one of the most affordable options in its segment.

Features and Engine Options Still Strong

Despite the price increase, the features and performance of the Basalt remain unchanged.

It comes with two engine options:

A 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, ideal for daily city driving

A 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, designed for better power and performance

In terms of features, the SUV offers a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also includes a digital instrument cluster for a modern driving experience.

On the safety front, it gets essential features like 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, and electronic stability control as standard.

Competition and Market Challenge

The Citroen Basalt directly competes with models like the Tata Curvv. Even after the price increase, the Basalt is still more affordable than many of its rivals, which keeps it competitive.

The coupe-SUV segment is slowly gaining popularity in India, as it combines the toughness of an SUV with a stylish, sporty design.

However, the real challenge for Citroën now will be to maintain customer interest after the price hike. Along with pricing, the company will also need to focus on improving its service network and strengthening its brand presence in the market.
