Residents of Kargil and nearby areas can now access passport services closer to home.
A new Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) has been opened in Kargil, reducing the need for people to travel long distances for passport-related work.
Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh and Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena inaugurated the new facility.
It has been set up at the Kargil Sub Post Office in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Department of Posts.
Kargil Gets Its Own Passport Service Centre
The new POPSK is the second such passport service centre in Ladakh. The first POPSK in the region was opened in Leh in 2017.
The Kargil centre is also the 457th Post Office Passport Seva Kendra in India. It is expected to make passport services much easier to access for residents of Kargil and surrounding areas.
Earlier, many people from Kargil had to travel to places such as Leh or Srinagar for passport-related services. This involved additional travel time and expenses.
With the new centre now available locally, residents will be able to complete many passport-related formalities much closer to their homes.
New Centre Will Save Time and Travel Costs
The opening of the Passport Seva Kendra addresses a long-standing demand from residents of Kargil.
The biggest benefit will be easier access to essential passport services without having to make lengthy journeys.
Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena said the new centre is an important step towards bringing essential government services closer to the people of Ladakh.
He said the facility supports the government’s focus on improving the “ease of living” for citizens. The aim is to provide passport services in a fair, efficient, transparent and hassle-free manner.
Passport Services Expanding to Remote Areas
Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh said the Kargil POPSK is part of the government’s efforts to expand passport services to remote and underserved areas.
The government aims to make these services more accessible and citizen-friendly, especially for people who previously had to travel long distances.
For residents of Kargil and nearby areas, the new centre means easier access to passport services, lower travel expenses and significant time savings.
