ChatGPT Launches Study Mode to Help Students Learn Smart

ChatGPT Study Mode: OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has launched a new feature called “Study Mode” to help students learn better. This feature is designed to support deep learning and encourage students to think and understand, rather than just giving direct answers.

What Is Study Mode?

OpenAI shared on X (formerly Twitter) that the Study Mode will help students understand topics in a clearer and more detailed way. It will also help improve their learning skills by explaining solutions step by step, not just giving quick answers.

Who Can Use It?

The Study Mode feature is now available to all logged-in users of ChatGPT, including those on the Free, Plus, Pro, and Team plans. OpenAI has said that it will also be made available to ChatGPT Edu users in the coming weeks.

If you’re using ChatGPT to learn a topic, Study Mode will make it easier to understand the topic in depth.

Why Was Study Mode Introduced?

This update comes in response to concerns about how AI is affecting education. A study released in June showed that students who used ChatGPT to write essays had lower brain activity compared to those who did their own research or used Google.

OpenAI wants to change that by encouraging active learning. That means students should stay involved in the learning process, instead of just completing tasks quickly with AI help.

The Growing Use of ChatGPT in Schools

ChatGPT became very popular quickly after its launch in 2022. Its use in schools also grew fast, leading to bans in several US school districts.

But by 2023, many of those bans were removed after teachers recognized the potential of AI tools in education.

Part of a Larger Trend in AI and Education

With the launch of Study Mode, OpenAI joins other AI companies like Anthropic, which released its own learning mode earlier this year. This shows a growing effort across the industry to align AI tools with educational goals and make learning more meaningful.
