With the festive season approaching, millions of passengers are preparing to travel home for Diwali and Chhath celebrations.
To manage the rush and ensure safe and convenient travel, Central Railway is operating 1,702 special trains this year.
According to Central Railway CPRO Swapnil Neela, these special trains will help passengers reach their destinations on time while maintaining comfort and safety throughout the journey.
Key Routes and Departure Points
The special trains are departing from major stations including:
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus
Lokmanya Tilak Terminus
Pune, Kolhapur, and Nagpur
Over 800 trains are heading to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and northeastern states.
Several trains are also running within Maharashtra, such as:
Pune to Kolhapur
Mumbai to Nagpur
Mumbai to Kolhapur-Latur
The Railways aim to ensure that all passengers travel comfortably and reach their destinations on time.
Passenger Convenience: Holding Areas and Mobile Booking
To improve passenger experience, holding areas have been set up at major stations.
For example, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus has a holding area that can accommodate over 3,000 passengers.
Another holding area near platform 18 is also ready to serve travelers.
These areas are equipped with:
Food and beverages
Drinking water
Toilets
Fans
Additionally, the Mobile UTS app allows passengers to book tickets online, reducing dependency on ticket counters.
Extra ticket counters have also been opened at several stations to avoid long queues.
