The Android app of troubled edtech company Byju’s has disappeared from the Google Play Store. Its official website now only shows a basic landing page.
Users who had already installed the app are also facing issues — they can’t access their paid subscriptions or view video content.
Currently, only the ‘Think and Learn Premium’ app and ‘Byju’s Exam Preparation’ app are available on the Play Store.
However, the main ‘BYJU’S – The Learning App’ is still available on Apple’s App Store.
AWS Payment Delays May Be the Reason Behind the App Disruption
A report from Moneycontrol suggests that the problems with Byju’s app are due to unpaid bills to Amazon Web Services (AWS), which powers Byju’s cloud services.
A source stated, “Payments to AWS have been delayed, which has led to some services being shut down. This has affected app content, website functions, and video streaming.”
‘Think and Learn Premium’ App Also Facing Issues
Though the ‘Think and Learn Premium’ app is still visible on the Google Play Store, it is not working properly.
Users are saying they can’t access any learning material through it. So far, Byju’s has not made any official statement about this issue.
Byju’s Faces Allegations of Mismanagement and Financial Misuse
Byju’s is already under serious allegations of poor management and misuse of company funds.
Recently, Aakash Educational Services Limited (AESL) accused the auditing firm EY of a conflict of interest and violating ethical standards during an ongoing legal battle with Byju’s.
AESL wants EY to share all related documents and information about their dealings.
AESL claims that EY was advising both Byju’s and AESL, even while knowing about the ongoing dispute between the two.
EY responded by saying, “We reject all allegations. We treat client confidentiality and conflicts of interest with utmost seriousness, and therefore cannot comment further on this matter.”
