There is big news for telecom users.
If you have been waiting for BSNL’s 5G services, the wait may soon be over.
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited is likely to soft launch its 5G service in the next six months, starting with Delhi.
The announcement was made by BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Robert Ravi during the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in Delhi, according to a Business Standard report.
BSNL 5G Launch to Begin in Delhi
BSNL plans to start its 5G journey from the national capital.
The company says the launch will be based on upgrading its existing 4G infrastructure.
This means BSNL is not starting from scratch. Instead, it is building on its current network to roll out 5G services faster.
Once launched in Delhi, BSNL will directly compete with Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, whose 5G services are already active in the city.
This move is being seen as the next big step in BSNL’s network expansion strategy.
Focus on Better Network and Fewer Call Drops
BSNL is also working hard to improve service quality.
After directions from the Telecom Minister, the company has set up quality control teams in every telecom circle.
These teams regularly monitor network performance and call drop issues.
BSNL says it is reviewing network parameters continuously to reduce call drops.
The company also highlighted its recently launched VoWiFi service, which improves call quality in areas with weak signals and inside buildings.
Stronger Push with AI and Rural Connectivity
BSNL is not only focusing on cities.
Through BharatNet, the company is working on developing Edge AI solutions in rural areas.
The goal is to provide better internet speed and connectivity in villages as well.
To compete with private players like Jio and Airtel, BSNL is upgrading its technology and strengthening its complaint resolution system.
This system helps identify network issues based on location and fix them quickly.
According to Robert Ravi, BSNL has now reached a stage where the gap between private telecom companies and BSNL is much smaller than before.
With AI-based network monitoring planned for the future, BSNL aims to deliver smoother and more reliable services to users across India.
