The Government of India’s ration schemes play a crucial role in helping poor and needy families.
Under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), millions of families receive subsidized grains to meet their basic needs.
Starting January 1, 2025, the government will introduce changes in the quantity of grains provided and the rules associated with ration cards.
These changes aim to make the ration distribution system more efficient and transparent.
New Grain Quantities for Ration Card Holders
From January 1, 2025, the quantity of wheat and rice given through ration cards will be revised:
Regular Ration Card Holders: The rice quantity will be reduced from 3 kg to 2.5 kg per unit, while the wheat quantity will remain at 2 kg per unit.
Antyodaya Ration Card Holders: They will now receive 18 kg of rice and 17 kg of wheat, instead of the previous 21 kg of rice and 14 kg of wheat. The total allocation will remain 35 kg.
These adjustments are part of the government’s efforts to improve food security and nutrition for citizens.
Mandatory e-KYC for Ration Card Holders
The government has made e-KYC mandatory for all ration card holders, with a deadline of December 1, 2024.
Failure to complete this process will result in the cancellation of the ration card, meaning the person will no longer receive subsidized grains.
This measure ensures that only eligible individuals benefit from the ration schemes.
How to Complete e-KYC
Ration card holders can complete the e-KYC process in two ways:
Online: Use the official Food Department website and provide Aadhaar card details. This method is quick and convenient.
Offline: Visit the nearest ration dealer or Common Service Centre (CSC) with Aadhaar card and required documents.
Key Dates to Note
Last date for e-KYC: December 1, 2024
New rules come into effect: January 1, 2025
Ration card holders must act before the deadline to ensure they continue receiving the benefits of the ration scheme.
