Getting an Aadhaar card in India has become easier than before. UIDAI has changed the rules for Aadhaar enrollment and updates.
The list of valid documents has been updated, which will help people who earlier faced problems due to lack of proper documents.
These new rules make the process simpler and more accessible for everyone.
What Has Changed in Aadhaar Rules?
UIDAI wants to ensure that no citizen is left out of Aadhaar services. So, the list of documents for identity, address, date of birth, and relationship proof has been simplified.
Now, you can complete Aadhaar enrollment or updates with fewer and more practical documents.
Documents Required for Name Change in Aadhaar
If you want to correct or change your name in Aadhaar, the following documents are accepted:
Passport (most reliable, as it has photo, name, date of birth, and address)
PAN card (proof of identity)
Voter ID card (shows photo and name clearly)
Driving license
Government ID card
Marriage certificate
These documents can be used to update your name in Aadhaar.
Documents Required for Address Change in Aadhaar
For updating your address, UIDAI accepts multiple documents, such as:
Passport
Bank passbook or bank statement (updated)
Electricity, water, or gas bills (not older than 3 months)
Rent agreement with police verification or notarization (for rented houses)
New voter ID card
Ration card
House tax or property tax receipt
These documents can be used as proof of address.
Documents Required for Date of Birth (DOB) Update
To correct your date of birth in Aadhaar, you can use:
Birth certificate (most important document)
Passport
Class 10th or 12th mark sheet
Physical PAN card
Other government ID cards with a clear date of birth
Aadhaar Update Made Easier
Under the new UIDAI rules, updating your name, address, date of birth, or family details is now simpler.
If you have a single document that shows your photo, name, and address, UIDAI will accept it as both proof of identity (PoI) and proof of address (PoA). This means you no longer need to submit separate documents.
Important Things to Remember
All documents must be genuine and original.
There should be no editing or alteration in photo, name, or details.
Fake or edited documents may lead to rejection of your Aadhaar update request.
There is a limit on the number of changes:
Name can be changed up to 2 times
Date of birth and gender can be changed only 1 time
