Hotels and restaurants in Bengaluru are warning of serious disruptions due to a sudden shortage of commercial LPG cylinders.

The Bangalore Hotels Association has said that many establishments may be forced to shut down starting March 10 because LPG supply to commercial kitchens has reportedly stopped.

Restaurant owners say the unexpected halt in deliveries has left many kitchens without enough fuel to cook food, making daily operations difficult.

According to the association, oil companies had earlier assured them that LPG supplies would remain stable for several weeks, but the sudden stoppage has created an immediate crisis.

Chennai Hoteliers Seek Government Intervention

The problem is not limited to Bengaluru. In Chennai, the Chennai Hotels Association has written to Narendra Modi asking for urgent help to restore commercial LPG supplies.

Hotel owners say the shortage could severely impact restaurants, catering businesses, and food services across the state.

They also pointed out that the hospitality sector supplies food to hospitals, IT parks, college hostels, travellers, and daily wage workers.

If LPG supplies do not resume soon, millions of people who depend on these services could face inconvenience.

In addition, many banquets, weddings, and event bookings could be affected if restaurants are unable to operate their kitchens.

West Asia Conflict Affecting LPG Supply

Industry experts say the shortage is linked to ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

The conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States has disrupted shipping routes and energy supply chains.

A key concern is the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil and gas transport routes.

disruption there can affect global LPG shipments.

Since India imports a large share of its LPG from the Middle East, the country becomes vulnerable when supply routes are affected.

Restaurants Across South India Running Low on Gas

Hospitality groups in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala say the shortage is spreading quickly.

Many hotels and restaurants have already used up their backup cylinders and are now rationing their remaining LPG supplies.

Industry representatives warn that if fresh supplies do not arrive soon, more food businesses may temporarily close operations.

Tourism and Hospitality Industry May Be Hit

The shortage is also beginning to impact tourism-related businesses.

Some hotels have reportedly started cancelling bookings because they may not be able to serve food to guests.

If the situation continues, it could affect tourism, restaurant businesses, and thousands of workers employed in the hospitality sector.

Hotel associations are now urging the central government and oil companies to restore LPG supplies quickly to avoid a larger crisis in the food and hospitality industry.
