Bajaj Auto, a stalwart in the Indian two-wheeler industry, is set to make history by introducing a bike powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in 2025.
CEO Rajiv Bajaj shared this ambitious plan in an exclusive interview with CNBC-TV18, asserting that currently, no CNG-powered bikes are being produced anywhere in the world.
Industry Challenges
Addressing the challenges faced by the two-wheeler industry, Bajaj expressed concerns about excessive taxes and regulations affecting the segment.
He noted that nearly 60 percent of the three-wheeler industry has already transitioned to CNG, highlighting the potential benefits of adopting this alternative fuel source.
Sales Targets and Production
Rajiv Bajaj acknowledged that the automotive sales recovery has not yet reached pre-pandemic levels, especially impacting the two-wheeler segment.
Despite this, Bajaj Auto is aiming for a sales target of 10,000 units per month. The CEO also revealed plans for a substantial production increase in the third quarter of the current financial year.
Expanding Product Portfolio
In a previous interview, Rajiv Bajaj emphasized Bajaj Auto’s commitment to providing affordable options through their collaboration with the British motorcycle brand ‘Triumph.’
The partnership has already seen the launch of Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400.
Bajaj hinted at the imminent arrival of new products starting from the next month,
signaling an exciting phase for the company.
Pune Plant for Future Prospects
Highlighting the strategic investments made for the Triumph collaboration,
Rajiv Bajaj mentioned the establishment of a new manufacturing plant in Chakan, Pune, with an expenditure of Rs 200 crore.
This underscores Bajaj Auto’s dedication to offering premium yet value-driven products to customers,
showcasing their commitment to innovation and growth in the competitive automotive landscape.
