Ayushman Yojana Extended to Elderly Above 70, Farmers Benefit

President Draupadi Murmu announced a significant initiative during her address to the 18th Lok Sabha, promising healthcare benefits for elderly citizens.

According to this new policy, all individuals above 70 years of age will receive coverage under the Ayushman Yojana.

Government Commitment and Implementation

President Murmu, speaking at the Parliament House, highlighted the government’s commitment to extend Ayushman benefits to senior citizens.

Additionally, the government has allocated Rs 20,000 crores to support farmers, enhancing their self-reliance.

Manifesto and BJP’s Promise

During the Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party had pledged in their manifesto to include individuals aged 70 and above in the Ayushman Bharat scheme.

This move aims to address healthcare concerns among elderly citizens, ensuring they receive quality medical treatment.

Expansion and Implementation

The BJP manifesto outlines plans to expand the Ayushman Bharat scheme to cover elderly citizens, providing them with free healthcare services.

Initially launched as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana in 2019, the scheme currently offers coverage up to Rs 5 lakh.

MY Bharat Initiative

President Murmu also introduced the ‘Mera Yuva Bharat – MY Bharat’ campaign during her address, aimed at fostering youth participation in nation-building activities.

Over 1.5 crore youth have already enrolled in this initiative, which also includes plans to establish a digital university.
