ATM Withdrawals to Get Costlier: HDFC, PNB, and IndusInd Bank Announce New Charges

ATM Rule Update: If you often withdraw cash from ATMs, be careful about how many times you do it each month.

Starting May 1, 2025, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will implement new ATM transaction rules across the country.

These changes include updates to the number of free transactions allowed and the charges for going beyond those limits. The goal is to improve the overall functioning of ATM services.

What Is the New Free Transaction Limit?

According to the RBI, customers will still get 3 free ATM transactions per month in metro cities and 5 in non-metro cities.

These include both financial transactions like cash withdrawals and non-financial ones such as balance checks, mini statements, and PIN changes.

Charges After the Free Limit

Once you exceed your free transaction limit, you’ll be charged Rs 23 plus tax for every additional transaction. This rule will apply to all ATMs, regardless of the bank.

What Are the Banks Saying?

HDFC Bank: Starting May 1, 2025, withdrawals beyond the free limit at HDFC ATMs will be charged Rs 23 + tax per transaction.

However, balance checks, mini statements, and PIN changes will remain free.

Punjab National Bank (PNB): From May 9, 2025, customers using other banks’ ATMs will be charged Rs 23 (plus GST) for extra financial transactions and Rs 11 (plus GST) for non-financial transactions after the free limit.

IndusInd Bank: From May 1, 2025, savings, salary, NR, and current account holders will have to pay Rs 23 per withdrawal after the free limit when using non-IndusInd ATMs.

Customer Advice

Customers are advised to track their ATM usage, especially when using ATMs of other banks.

To avoid these extra charges, try to withdraw cash from your own bank’s ATM or use digital payment options whenever possible.
