If you often withdraw cash from ATMs, you need to be careful. The State Bank of India (SBI) has updated its rules for ATM transactions.
Going beyond the free limit will now cost you extra. These changes came into effect in February and May 2025, making ATM usage more expensive for many account holders.
Free ATM Transactions and Charges
Starting February 1, 2025, SBI introduced new rules for free ATM transactions:
SBI ATMs: 5 free transactions per month
Other bank ATMs: 10 free transactions per month
Total free transactions per month: 15
Special case: Customers maintaining an average balance of more than ₹1 lakh get unlimited free transactions at both SBI and non-SBI ATMs.
Charges if you exceed the free limit:
SBI ATMs: ₹15 + GST per transaction
Other bank ATMs: ₹21 + GST per transaction
Other Fees You Should Know

Balance check or mini statement at other bank ATMs: ₹10 + GST

From May 1, 2025: RBI increased the ATM interchange fee. After the free limit, customers will now pay ₹23 per transaction.
