Apple to Bring Satellite connectivity to iPhones Soon

Many people face problems when their mobile network disappears in remote areas like jungles or mountains, leaving their smartphones useless. But soon, Apple may solve this issue.

The company is reportedly working on satellite-based connectivity, which will allow users to send messages and use navigation apps like Apple Maps even without a mobile network.

This means that even in places with no signal, iPhone users will still be able to stay connected.

This feature could be especially useful in a country like India, where network coverage is often a challenge.

A Step Forward in Satellite Technology

Apple’s internal “Satellite Connectivity Group” is developing technology to connect iPhones directly with satellites.

This goes beyond the current Emergency SOS via Satellite feature, expanding it to include general messaging and navigation without network dependence.

Use Maps and Messages Without a Network

According to reports, the new features — “Messages via Satellite” and Maps Emulation — will allow users to chat and view maps even in areas without mobile coverage.

This means satellite features will no longer be limited to emergencies but useful for everyday use too.

However, there are still challenges ahead, such as satellite spectrum, licensing, Indian regulations, and partnerships with local networks.

The Apple–Globalstar collaboration and expansion of their satellite network will also play a key role.

Launch Timeline and Supported iPhone Models

It’s not yet confirmed when these features will launch in India. Currently, the iPhone 14 and newer models already support Satellite SOS.

Apple has hinted that the upcoming models and software updates will bring expanded satellite features soon.
