Apple introduces iPhone 17 in India: Bigger display, stronger build, and smarter cameras

Apple has rolled out the iPhone 17 in India, the latest addition to its standard iPhone series.

While it doesn’t come with the flashy upgrades of the Pro lineup, this new model still offers meaningful improvements in design, performance, and camera quality.

Familiar look, stronger build, and fresh colours

At first glance, the iPhone 17 resembles last year’s iPhone 16, but Apple has made subtle refinements to boost durability and comfort.

The handset now features Ceramic Shield 2 on the front, which Apple claims is three times more resistant to scratches than before.

It also gets a new atomic-level coating that toughens the display further, along with a seven-layer anti-reflective treatment to minimise glare outdoors.

The design retains the flat-edge frame introduced with the iPhone 12, though slightly rounded corners make it easier to grip.

A matte finish on the back helps keep smudges away, while the refreshed colour palette gives the device a more distinct identity.

The dual-camera array is placed vertically, continuing the design shift seen on the iPhone 16.

A brighter, smoother display

The iPhone 17’s screen size has grown to 6.3 inches, up from the iPhone 16’s 6.1-inch panel.

Apple has finally brought ProMotion to the standard iPhone, offering adaptive refresh rates from 1Hz to 120Hz.

The display can also hit an impressive 3,000 nits peak brightness, the brightest on any iPhone so far—ideal for outdoor use.

Powered by the A19 chip

Inside, the new A19 Bionic chip—built on a 3nm process—drives performance. The processor includes a 6-core CPU (two performance and four efficiency cores) and a 5-core GPU.

Apple says this setup significantly boosts speed and efficiency, especially for users moving up from older iPhones.

Camera upgrades, front and back

Photography sees one of the biggest leaps. The rear now uses a 48MP dual-fusion system, which combines the main and telephoto functions.

It supports focal lengths of 13mm, 26mm, and 52mm (2x telephoto).

On the front, Apple has introduced an 18MP sensor with a larger capture area for better selfies and video calls.

It also supports Center Stage, an AI feature that automatically adjusts framing when more people enter the shot. Videos benefit from enhanced stabilisation, borrowing tech from the rear action mode.

Battery life and storage

Battery performance has been extended as well. Apple promises all-day use with up to 8 hours more video playback than the iPhone 16.

A quick 10-minute charge can deliver up to 8 hours of streaming.

Storage has also been bumped up, with the base model now starting at 256GB, giving users more room for apps, photos, and videos.
